Summary
As a Software Developer, MES & Applications, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining full-stack web applications that support manufacturing operations, data visibility, and real-time alerting across FGF plants. Working within the Information Technology team, you will contribute to the MES-AMP platform and related tools, building features end-to-end from database and API layers through to user-facing interfaces. You will collaborate with engineers, plant operations staff, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable software that connects the plant floor to enterprise systems.

Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web application features for the MES-AMP platform (Flask backend, React frontend).
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services to support manufacturing alerting, reporting, and monitoring workflows.
- Design and manage MongoDB collections, schemas, and aggregation pipelines to support application data needs.
- Develop responsive, user-friendly frontend interfaces using React and modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Contribute to UI/UX design decisions, including wireframing, component design, and ensuring a consistent user experience.
- Integrate application services with IoT data sources, SCADA platforms, and plant-floor systems via MQTT, OPC-UA, and REST APIs.
- Support data pipeline development connecting MongoDB, SQL Server, and enterprise platforms (SAP, Databricks).
- Write clean, maintainable Python code with appropriate testing, documentation, and version control practices.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and iterative feature development in an agile environment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues raised by plant operations and engineering staff.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, electricians, and project leads to ensure projects are completed on time.
- Follow all GMP, Health & Safety, Food Safety & Environmental Standards.
- Keep up to date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in web development and industrial software.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python, including experience with Flask or a comparable web framework for building backend APIs and services.
- Experience with MongoDB — including schema design, querying, aggregation pipelines, and working with time-series or event-driven data.
- Frontend development experience using React (or similar frameworks) and JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Understanding of UI/UX principles and experience contributing to or leading interface design decisions.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design, authentication patterns, and integrating third-party services.
- Exposure to IoT concepts, messaging protocols (MQTT, WebSockets), or real-time data applications is an asset.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases (Microsoft SQL Server preferred) for querying and data retrieval.
- Experience with version control (Git), containerization (Docker), and basic CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and deploying web applications in cloud environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across the full software development lifecycle.
- Good communication and interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Be available on-call after hours to support plant operations where required.
