Summary:

 

The Senior Health & Safety Specialist plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing FGF’s safety culture and execution within the facility—one of our most dynamic and operationally complex sites. This role provides both hands-on, floor-focused oversight and an influential partnership with site leadership to ensure that Health & Safety programs are executed with excellence. With an elevated level of technical expertise, maturity, and independent decision-making, the Senior Specialist supports a high-tempo environment by leading risk identification, coaching leaders and Team Members, and driving consistent behaviors that strengthen the site’s safety culture. This role champions program execution, continuous improvement, and the practical application of FGF’s safety standards, ensuring the site maintains a safe, compliant, and high-performing workplace.

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Serve as a senior-level partner to site leadership, providing guidance, coaching, and influence to strengthen accountability and elevate safety culture across all levels.
  • Lead the execution and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs, with a strong, handson presence on the production floor to proactively identify risks and engage Team Members.
  • Independently prioritize and coordinate safety initiatives in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing demands, ensuring sustained execution and follow-through.
  • Conduct advanced risk assessments, incident investigations, and audits, identifying systemic opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training and coaching to support leadership capability and reinforce consistent behaviors aligned with FGF safety expectations.
  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships to align safety actions with operational priorities and influence change where needed.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to emerging Health & Safety talent and reinforce a high-performance safety mindset across the site.
  • Monitor leading and lagging metrics, conduct detailed trend analysis, and recommend focused improvement actions.
  • Serve as a champion for continuous improvement, promoting best practices, operational discipline, and a Team Member–centric approach to safety engagement.
  • Support site readiness for audits, regulatory inspections, and large-scale initiatives such as new line or equipment commissioning.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Required Experience:

 

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in health and safety, preferably in a manufacturing or multi-site environment.
  • Formal education and/or training in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Health and Safety Professional, e.g., ASP/CRST, CSP/CRSP®/PSAC®, or CHSC would be an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the OHSA/OSHA and other related Health and Safety legislation.
  • Safety knowledge in Fall Protection, Heat Stress, Safe Lifting, and WHMIS.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, leading, and mentoring health and safety professionals.
  • Proven track record of implementing cross-site programs and influencing senior leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills; capable of engaging diverse teams.
  • Flexible, open, and approachable attitude.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as within a collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment within specified timeframes and where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
