Job Description

Summary

This is an individual contributor role in the Research and Development group. The scope of this role expands over multiple facets of R&D, but primarily focusing on business continuity projects, commercialization, process improvement and plant support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting in facilities and work with manufacturing teams to reduce quality complaints through the optimization of processes and formulae.
  • Investigate and resolve product variations by applying a scientific approach to the variables.
  • Improve current processes through innovation and the testing of new technologies.
  • Become familiar with every aspect of process and equipment capability in order to distribute knowledge amongst all facilities. 
  • Provide training and technical support to plants to ensure products meet customer expectations. This will include providing direct training on new technologies and manufacturing processes. 
  • Identify and support cost savings measures through process optimization, ingredient substitutions and reductions, or formulae optimization. 
  • Work closely with PD, QA and Manufacturing to support new product launches as well as the development/improvement of existing products. 
  • All other duties as required.

Required Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in Food R&D. Previous experience with bakery, specifically frozen sweet baked goods category will be a plus.
  • Commercialization experience on high-speed automated production lines will be
  • Minimum, Bachelor of Science (Food Science, Chemistry or related) or Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical, Biological or related) is required.
  • Must be Creative, Go-getter and excellent
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) are
  • Flexibility to adapt to ever changing dynamics of the industry, as well as the organization which strives for continuous improvement of its products and processes.
  • Infectious enthusiasm and commitment to adapt to organization’s mission of becoming World’s Greatest
  • Required to work in Laboratory, Production floor and Office/desk.
  • Must be flexible to occasionally work in off-shifts and/or
  • Travel to sites within GTA area is
