Summary
Reporting directly to the Health and Wellness Leader, this pivotal role is integral to FGF's mission of ensuring the health and safety of all team members within our manufacturing environment. The Occupational Health & Wellness Nurse will play a key role in identifying and mitigating potential workplace hazards, providing comprehensive case management for WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board) cases, and championing wellness activities to promote a healthy work culture. Responsibilities will encompass managing both non-occupational and occupational cases, aimed at facilitating early and safe return to work.

Primary Responsibilities :
- Health and Wellness Initiatives: Developing and implementing health promotion and wellness programs to foster a healthy work environment. This may involve conducting educational sessions on topics such as ergonomics, stress management, nutrition, lifestyle choices, etc.
- Workplace Hazard Identification and Mitigation: Identifying potential health and safety hazards in the workplace and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to develop strategies for mitigation. This may include conducting risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Case Management: Providing comprehensive case management for occupational-related injuries and illnesses, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up care. This may involve collaborating with healthcare providers, facilitating return-to-work plans, and managing workers' compensation claims.
- Health Surveillance: Conduct health screenings and assessments to monitor the health status of team members and detect potential occupational health issues early.
- Emergency Response and First Aid: Providing immediate medical assistance in workplace accidents or emergencies. This may involve administering first aid and coordinating emergency medical services.
- Policy Development and Compliance: Developing, implementing, and enforcing occupational health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This may involve staying updated on relevant legislation and standards and providing guidance to management and team members.
- Team member Support and Counseling: Providing support and counseling to team members regarding health-related concerns, injury rehabilitation, and lifestyle management. This may involve referring team members to appropriate resources and facilitating access to EFAP, e.g., Dialogue (Virtual Health App).
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Health & Safety, Talent & Development, and Leadership, to promote a culture of health, safety, and wellness in the workplace. This may involve participating in safety committees, conducting training sessions, and facilitating communication channels for reporting health and safety concerns.
- Data Management and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of occupational health-related activities, including injury reports, health assessments, and program evaluations.
- Continuous Improvement: Participating in ongoing professional development and staying abreast of emerging trends and best practices in occupational health nursing. This may involve attending conferences, pursuing additional certifications, and engaging in peer networking opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Other duties as required.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in nursing. RN (Registered Nurses) preferred. RPN (Registered Practical Nurse) Diploma accepted.
- 1-3 experience working in the field of occupational health, health protection, or promotion programs.
- Occupational Health nursing background.
- Health promotion and education skills
- Continuous learning and development commitment
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience in case management
- Must have a working knowledge of WSIB guidelines.
- Proven facilitation, verbal, and written communication skills along with superior interpersonal and organizational skills required to deliver training and coaching to teams and individuals at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment within specified timeframes and where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
